Panic attacks

Most people hide their panic attacks from friends, family and colleagues.

Are you suffering from panic attacks? You are certainly not alone. As many as 1 in 10 people will suffer from a panic attack at some time in their life.  It is something that many people wont talk about. This means that sufferers often feel alone and isolated.  A panic attack is a very intense event where the full ‘fight or flight’ response triggers.  This leads to symptoms that include some or all of the following:

  • Accelerated heartbeat
  • Sweating or chills
  • Tremors
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea or stomach pain
  • Chest pain
  • Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
  • Feeling out of control

The first panic attack is often triggered by a stressful event. Or perhaps a long period of stress.  The number of panic attacks may range from one or two attacks a month, to several attacks a week.

In the UK approximately one in a hundred people has panic disorder. Many develop the disorder in their twenties but it can develop at any stage of your life. It is almost twice as common in women as it is in men.  An attack can happen to anyone at any time. It may be in the office, during recreation, driving, or even whilst sleeping.  A panic attack or panic disorder can be a frightening and intense experience.  It is important to remember that it is not dangerous. A panic attack will cause you no physical harm.  However it may have a big impact on your psychological well-being and performance.

Hypnotherapy for panic attacks or panic disorder

get rid of panic attack

Set yourself free to enjoy life fully.

Panic is a subconscious response to a perceived danger or threat.  It is very important in the right circumstances. When panic becomes an issue it is because it is happening out of context. Over things that ‘fight or flight’ can’t help with.  Things like problems at work or in relationships.  It may be a combination of things that build up to a problem.

Our subconscious does not like to let go of these responses.  It sees them as protective. This makes panic attack responses very hard to break. Hypnotherapy will allow the therapist to work directly with this part of your mind. It can reduce or even completely remove this inappropriate response to your environment quickly and effectively.
