Phobias

Phobias can be overcome

The word Phobia comes from the Greek language and means fear or morbid fear.  In the modern world the word has come to mean an irrational fear of something.  Fear is a good and useful tool in our survival repertoire, for example it encourages us to avoid dangerous places or situations.

A phobia is when we have a fear of something that can present no or little danger to us and our physical and psychological response is therefore out of proportion to the threat.

People in Croydon and Purley can and do develop phobias to almost anything from the common spiders, frogs and needles to the extremes of mud, eggs or aulophobi (fear of flutes.)  In fact, although many people find phobias bizarre and amusing, to the sufferer they are far from funny.  They can be debilitating and embarrassing.  They can reduce the options and enjoyment people take in life.  A person with a real fear of spiders would find it very difficult to go into an old building or shed, would find it difficult to fully relax outdoors or in the garden

Phobias are normally caused by an incident often in early life and may not even be consciously associated to the problem by the sufferer or even clearly remembered. The subconscious mind will remember the incident and continue to trigger the same fear response over and over again.

Hypnotherapy Phobia Treatment

At the Croydon Clinic of Hypnotherapy we can help clients to deal with the initial sensitising event.  Our hypnotherapy phobia treatment will uncover the initial sensitising event and then help you to either re-frame it or collapse it thereby removing the unwanted subconscious response.

How long does hypnotherapy phobia treatment take.

Most phobias can be dealt with in just one session, freeing a sufferer from sometimes years of self-imposed restrictions or embarrassment or perhaps just removing that worry that you will come face to face with your irrational fear.  Some more complex phobias however may need one or more follow up sessions.

No Exposure therapy

When you receive hypnotherapy phobia treatment you do not need to physically confront the object of your fear!  We do not under any circumstances use exposure therapy and you will not be expected to be near to or handle any object that you fear.  If you wish to do so yourself, after you have completed the therapy, then that is something that you can try yourself in your own time.
